Methods & Materials

high performance building methods and materials

When we begin the process of working with a client to build or design/build their home, we listen to the your ideas, wants and needs. If you have plans, we will review and may offer suggestions, ideas or make any desired changes. If you don't have plans, we will work with you to develop a complete set.

Once the floor plan is finalized, we focus on the design and construction of the building envelope - foundation, walls, roof and then address the interior efficiency and comfort aspects.

The envelope-first focus dramatically reduces the energy required to heat and cool a high performance home and also ensures the structural integrity is not compromised.

Client Comments

nc energy star 3 certified home

"I became aware of High Country Timberframe from a local building supply company who provided me with a few contractor references. I arrived at the business unannounced and was met by Tom, one of the owners, who showed me some of their work. More than an hour later, I left realizing that HCTF was the company for me. We wanted a home that was built by local craftsmen and that was a "green" built home. Tom was very knowledgeable in this area and we were able to use structural insulated panels, and insulated concrete forms, which created a very energy efficient house. Pete was instrumental in coordinating every aspect of the build, to include keeping me apprised of every situation, especially since I was in Florida most of the time. From the design recommendations, the skill of their carpentry, cleanliness of the site, the incredible work ethic, the knowledge, and most of all, their friendship, was all beyond reproach. They built our dream home with such care, like they were building their own home. We hope to spend many years in our incredibly built "cabin in the woods," by a team of incredible people. I HIGHLY recommend HCTF to be a part of your dream!"
